The North East Training, Research and Advocacy Foundation (NETRA)
NETRA is an independent, policy-driven research institute committed to the inclusive and sustainable development of North East India. Recognized nationally and globally for its expertise, NETRA serves as a catalyst for transformational change in the region by integrating high-quality research, evidence-based advocacy, and capacity-building initiatives.
NETRA undertakes interdisciplinary research on critical development, governance, and policy issues, while fostering strong linkages with academic institutions, civil society, governments, and international organizations—particularly in the ASEAN and Global South regions. The Foundation actively promotes dialogue between stakeholders through seminars, workshops, symposiums, and conferences to address regional challenges and opportunities.
With a focus on building research infrastructure and enhancing human capital, NETRA offers training and short-term capacity development programs in research methodologies, public policy, and development planning. Through publications, outreach activities, and structured stakeholder engagement, NETRA ensures that its work contributes meaningfully to shaping development strategies, informing policy decisions, and empowering communities in North East India.

Objectives of NETRA

Interdisciplinary Research
To conduct high-quality, interdisciplinary research on development, governance, policy, and transformation issues related to North East India, with an extended focus on ASEAN and Global South regions.

Knowledge Hub
To serve as a knowledge hub and catalyst for inclusive and sustainable development in North East India by promoting evidence-based research and action-oriented studies.

Policy Support
To support evidence-informed policymaking through structured stakeholder dialogues, policy briefs, working papers, and collaborative research initiatives.

Capacity Building
To build and strengthen research infrastructure and human capital in the region by offering training, mentoring, and capacity-building programs in research methodologies, policy analysis, and development planning.

Collaborative Partnerships
To promote international, national, and regional collaboration by fostering academic, institutional, and civil society partnerships, particularly with ASEAN countries and Global South institutions.

Research Dissemination
To disseminate research outputs effectively through reports, publications, workshops, conferences, webinars, and other communication platforms to ensure societal and policy impact.

Policy Dialogue
To foster policy dialogue and thought leadership by organizing seminars, symposiums, and public debates on key development challenges and opportunities facing North East India.
